The crossing between Terceira and Santa-Maria

We left on waves that were 3.5 to 4m high with a southeasterly wind of about 20 knots. We were shaken quite a bit. So our stomachs who were use to earth living by now decided to lodged themselves in our throats and stay there for most of the trip. We don't usually get sea sick so we were a bit surprised. Our hat goes off to all the people who suffer from this regularly and go out to sea anyway. It really not pleasant. Next time, we are taking drugs! The good news is that by the time we arrived, we were feeling much better. So much so that we had delicious grilled octopus at the marina restaurant. The only event of the crossing was when the rope in our boom brake gave out causing an uncontrolled jibe which thankfully didn't break anything else. Since it was still dark, we brought the main sail down and continued toSanta Maria with only the jib. A first flying fish landed on our deck but when can't tell you when since we only noticed it while arriving a the dock next to an American boat called "Flying fish".
So since we talked about our stomachs, this would be a great opportunity to mention that the Portugese make excellent grilled fished in all sorts of varieties and also squid and octopus. Going out to dine has been quite a treat. The cow are free to graze in the fields so their meat is also very popular. Other food that have to be tired are the wines of Pico, the cheese of Sao Jorge and the pineapples of Sao Miguel.
The below picture is what is in front of us at the marina. I don't think I want to meet the guy who did that!
The last of the summer festivals is happening this weekend and it is the fisherman's party. More pictures and info to follow...
