A day out a sea
There are somethings that we check on at regular intervals during the day like the speed, the heading and the state of our electricity. We then ajust sails or solar pannels as required. For the rest of the day, we usually do assement at 6h and 18h. For exmaple, this morning we are 568 nm for the Azores. Since yesterday, we have gone 147 nm. Our speed is 6.3 knots and the heading is 111°. The wind is SSW at 18 knots and the waves coming from the same direction at 1.5m. At 7h am, we chat with the "réseau du Capitaine" on our high frequency radio. You can listen to that conversation on the web (if you understand french) by going to www.lereseauducapitaine.qc.ca. At 8h, we communicate with Daniel from Damalu. He his prensently about a 100 nm NO of us crossing as we are but solo on a Chatam sail boat. The first one to get to the other side buys the beer. Place your bets! Who will make it first? It might be a close call, he is behind at the moment but since he took a more northen route, he might have more sustained wind as we approche the Azores. We'll see. At 15h45, we have a chat with Herb who gives out weather information from Ontario. We also download grib files which are weather maps. So we know for instance that a low front is comming that should brings winds of up to 35 knots and some rain. At the moment, it is still very nice and sunny. Another occupation which takes a lot of our time is preparing, eating and putting away food. Some people are curious as to what we eat on bord. I will keep that for later since this email is long enough. The rest of the day is spend day dreaming while watching the horizon, reading, reparing something (since something is always broken) and sleeping.
